A brief Background of KCB Youth Team

The King’s Cross Brunswick Neighbourhood Association (KCBNA) Youth Project members are organising a football tournament on Monday 28th February 2011 at Coram’s Fields in partnership with the Metropolitan Police, Camden Council and Coram’s Fields to fundraise for KCB Youth and Sports activities.

The mission of (KCBNA) is “to improve the quality of life of local residents with the active involvement of people in the King’s Cross and Brunswick area of the London Borough of Camden”. KCBNA offers something for everyone in the neighbourhood through our three community centres including a children’s club, extensive youth activities, promoting healthier lifestyle classes, community safety, lunch clubs and activities for older people. We offer support to social and minority ethnic groups including young people at risk of exclusion and people from Bangladeshi, Chinese and Somalian communities.

We are currently seeking funding to support the delivery of our important Youth programme. The King’s Cross area is made up of a diverse young population that faces many challenges and difficulties from living in this extremely deprived area. Almost 80% of young people who use our services fall into one or more of the following categories – involvement in youth conflict, at risk of receiving anti-social behaviour orders, under-achievement at school, risk of exclusion, involvement in low level criminal activity, few educational qualifications and limited employment prospects. Our Youth programme is currently funded by a range of funders including: Drapers Charitable Trust, BBC Children in Need, the Youth Sector Development Fund, the local authority and the Rank Foundation. However, the majority of this funding is due to finish at the end of March 2011.

KCBNA’s exciting Youth programme is successfully providing positive activities to support disadvantaged marginalised young people. We are delighted to report that the project makes a huge difference to young people in the area and encourages their growth, progression and development. Our integrated programme includes exciting engagement activities such as outreach youth work, health and fitness sessions, multi-media training, accredited courses, workshops, residentials, sports and arts work, performance opportunities, script writing and drama.

In the last year of the programme we achieved the following outcomes:

Contact has been made with over 700 young people through outreach work

Over 450 young people have regularly participated in activities

Local police have recorded the lowest levels of youth anti-social behaviour in almost three years

40-50 young people have enrolled in further education and training (we work in close partnership with our local further education college)

50 young women are participating in social and recreational activities

45-50 young people are no longer considered at risk of obtaining an ASBO

Currently, our youth programme is achieving greater results than originally profiled and has received an overwhelmingly positive response from young people and stakeholders. Long term difference will allow young people to make further progress in moving towards further education/training and employment opportunities.

If you would like any further information or would like to make a donation please get in touch with me.

Yours sincerely

Harun Kaji

The KCB Youth Project aims to provide programmes of activities that meet young people’s needs and priorities, and offer quality support which will help them to achieve and progress in life.

The KCB Youth Team is indebted to all its funders for supporting the diverse activities available for the benefit of young people in the King’s Cross area. We have achieved an exceptional outcome for the service users who face prejudice and social exclusion in our society.

Our work has contributed to achieving the Every Child Matters five key themes – Being Healthy; Staying Safe; Enjoying and Achieving; Making a Positive Contribution and Economic Well Being and Quality of life.
The positive outcomes achieved by providing multiple activities, diverting young people away from anti-social behavior and youth crime, teaching about substance misuse and mental health, and offering new experiences, have given young people a renewed self belief.

The Youth Team ethos is based on believing in and investing in young people by providing positive activities for them. Please see below measurable outcomes accomplished by the Team.

More information about the Wisdom Trust-

The charitable objective of The Wisdom Trust is to generate awareness about the big issues facing the future of our planet, such as poverty, the environment and health, through innovative online education programmes. Operating across the international community, we will continue to engage individuals, charitable organisations and private companies, by ensuring they always have the freedom to decide their involvement with us.

Our mission is achieved through a series of principles that guide how we work: we call it The Wisdom Trust Way.

-	We guarantee that signing-up is not a life-long commitment; it just makes you a member. What you do then is your choice.

-	We continually aspire to provide a flexible range of educational tools, accessible to a diverse global population 24/7.

-	Our view on fundraising is clear and our concept unique – no hands in pockets and active support of the charitable community as a whole.

-	We aim to empower people, of all age groups and backgrounds, by suggesting simple ways of doing their “bit”.

-	By working together, we achieve more, so creating friendship, goodwill and understanding across all boundaries is core to our mission and our success.
