Exercise

Due to demand we have introduced new weekly sessions of Tai Chi and Qi Gong (a gentle Tai Chi based exercise) to help, amongst other things, breathing and balance.

Lunch Club

Alessandra, our cook, prepares home cooked food with fresh produce Monday-Friday for local older people. The club is very much a social opportunity for our elders where they can catch up with each other and try to alleviate loneliness and isolation.

Day Trips

We always try to organise a number of day trips each year. In recent years we have been to the Cotswolds, Eastbourne, Worthing, Hastings, Calais and Boulogne.

Working with Ethnic Older People

In the past decade there has been a sharp rise in the numbers of older people from black and minority ethnic communities, who are more likely to suffer from poor quality housing, high levels of poverty and have poor access to services.

Issues such as loneliness, high levels of health problems, isolation, cultural and language barriers and the widening generation gap are but a few of the problems faced by the BME community.

Bangladeshi Lunch Club

The lunch club brings together a large group of older Bangladeshi men who would otherwise be socially excluded. The lunch club also attracts people from the White, Chinese and Somali communities who engage and interact with the group. This is a great way to break down social barriers and unite the diverse community within the Kings Cross and Brunswick area.

Advice Session

Advice sessions have become one of the leading activities for people within BME communities. Working alongside the Pension Service and Welfare Rights Unit enables us to deal with problems effectively as well as informing the BME community of changes that might affect them directly.

Healthy Walks

KCB organises healthy walks that enable us to get out of the concrete jungle and visit different parks and take walks along various footpaths. This out door activity allows the group to carry out gentle but effective exercise with spacious surroundings.

Exercise Class

This is a popular class within the BME community that has grown in numbers. As well as having a week packed with activities, we organise various talks and seminars on issues of concern within the BME community.

Trips

KCB organise regular trips away from Kings Cross to the seaside, or fruit picking.
