KCB Annual Report 2009-10

KCB Annual Accounts 2009-10

Introduction by KCB’s Chair

The King’s Cross Brunswick Neighbourhood Association (KCB) has been working with the local residents to improve their quality of life by providing high quality cost effective services which support the aim of the organisation. This report gives a flavour of the diverse range of projects that KCB organises with the active involvement of local people. The impressive range of work undertaken by KCB would not be possible without a very committed staff team, dedicated volunteers and the support of our Trustees and all our funders.

As I reported last year one of our key objectives for this year was to fundraise for the refurbishment of the Marchmont Community Centre. I am pleased to report that the refurbished Marchmont Community Centre was opened on 27 January 2009 by the Rt. Hon. Tony McNulty MP, Minister for London. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the funders who supported the project.

I would also like to thank all the staff members, volunteers, Trustees and funders for supporting all the work of the organisation. None of this work would have been possible without their support.

Executive Director’s Report

KCBNA was established by local people in 1980 and was borne out of the community’s response in the 1970s to the local area’s difficulties and opportunities. Urban Aid was secured in 1976 to convert an old post office into a community centre and to this date this continues to be the organisation’s headquarters, the Marchmont Community Centre. During this period KCBNA has developed an excellent track record in the delivery of positive community development activities for people of all ages in King’s Cross. This work has been acknowledged locally, regionally and nationally. KCBNA has also welcomed visits from government ministers, senior civil servants and visitors from abroad wishing to learn from the organisation’s experience.

The organisation continues to be the community’s leading response to the needs of the residents of the King’s Cross and Brunswick areas of the London Borough of Camden. In addition to this, KCBNA provides three community centres and a broad range of services e.g. in relation to health, welfare and community cohesion and serves the whole community through initiatives targeted for example at older people, young people and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, and through KCBNA’s programme of activities for all.
